A global challenge
Never before have people all over the world been engaged in such a profound discussion about how we use materials and resources. As a society we have woken up to the fact that materials with no or limited recyclability are harming the planet.
- 744 million tonnes of waste to landfill each year
- Less than 15% of waste is recycled across the world
Our increasingly on-the-go lifestyles have meant we often rely on single-use solutions that exacerbate the global pollution crisis.
Products are designed with no thought for their end of life. Our collective short-termism means too that obsolescence is often built in as standard.
Globally we send some 744 million tonnes of waste to landfill each year. Less than 15 percent of waste is recycled across the world. According to the World Bank without urgent action, global waste will increase by some 70 percent on current levels by 2050.
We can’t go on like this.
